Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family

Sharing is caring!

How often as mothers do we feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and defeated? I know I climb into bed many nights feeling like a failure. I’m behind on chores, I’ve been a drill sergeant all day, and I’ve done little else than put out the most major fires all day long. If you feel that way often, Paul Tripp’s new book, Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family will help change your perspective while improving your parenting.Parenting by Tripp

As I read the first few chapters of this book, I nodded my head and underlined line after line. In theory, I agree with Tripp’s big picture parenting concept. But like many parents, it’s hard to get out of the bad parenting habits and cycles I’ve fallen into.

Tripp says, ” Parenting is either a thing of the highest treasure to you, and that is demonstrated in your choices, words, and actions everyday, or it’s not. “

That is so true, but the thing is, as much as we think of parenting as a high treasure, sometimes the way we show that priority is misguided. Or by the end of the day, the stress of parenting has whittled reactions down to anger and frustration. Surely it isn’t just me, right!?!

This book is not a ‘how to parent’ book that will give you steps to follow in order to raise great kids. It’s a book that will help you align your own heart to God’s purpose for you as a parent, so you can then guide your children’s hearts towards Jesus.  Tripp gives parents vision, motivation, renewed strength and rest of heart through the words and concepts he presents in this book.

My biggest takeaway from Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles,  is that I have no power to change my child. If parents had the power to create permanent change in children then we’d have no need for Jesus. As parents we need to address our children’s hearts and point them toward Jesus. He is the only one capable of bringing true change to any person- child or adult.

After reading Tripp’s new book, I feel refreshed and ready to approach mothering with renewed vision and strength. Pick up a copy today, and I know you will feel the same!

  1. My biggest struggle right now is not letting the stress of everyday life with the kids affect how I react. I wish I had more patience!

  2. I think for me, it’s time management. With so much on my plate, I wish there was more time in the day to do the things I want to do with my children.
