What a way to begin fall! Rob’s parents treated the entire family to a long weekend at Myrtle Beach. Though it was almost the end of September, the weather was perfect. It was that in-between time when the water is still warm enough to swim in, yet those sitting on the shore aren’t sweltering in the heat. The kids spent 3 days boogie boarding, jumping waves, sandcastle building, and playing football. Michael loves the chance to play with boy cousins, and does his best to keep up with the big kids. It’s hard to believe that Rebekah was once terrified of the waves and water. Even in the mornings when the water was still quite chilly she wanted to swim and splash. I still hold my breath every time a wave tumbles her, forgetting that she’s outgrown her fear here, each time she pops up giggling and goes right back into the waves.I’m passing on my love of finding sand fiddlers and digging crabs to the kids. This year, I saw more digging shells than I could count–they were all over the shoreline.Poor Miriam cried when Peyton kept several of the critters in a bucket too long and accidentally killed them.As always, the kids all enjoyed digging in the sand and creating castles.Emily loved the beach, maybe too much! She was fearless around the water and would have happily walked out into the waves and let them carry her away. Rob and I had to take turns chasing her into the waves, scooping her up before they carried her away and carrying her back up to the dry sand as she screeched at us for ruining her fun, just so she could start her kamikaze run into the water all over again. Thankfully, she also loved playing in the sand giving us a few breaks while she dug holes in the sand and tried to wreck her cousins’ moats and castles.
