Simple Tips for Hosting Holidays When Life is Crazy

Gathering with friends and family for the holidays is my favorite part of this time of year. But, as a Mom with little kids underfoot, it’s easy to lose sight of the blessings of those gatherings in stress.

Over the years I’ve learned several easy strategies for stress free hosting even when life is crazy.

Simple Tips for Hosting Holiday Gatherings

Don’t deep clean before a party

Deep cleaning before a party is futile. Why scrub kitchen floors to have drink drips and food crumbles all over them just a few hours later? Let go of the need to have a perfect house before a party.

Instead deep clean for Christmas AFTER the party!

Before a party simply straighten up clutter, dust the most glaring spots, wipe the counters with a soapy rag, and sweep the floor.

One stop shopping

Don’t waste your time running from store to store before a party. Instead shop at one store that has everything you need for the party.

As a single Mom, who must often take all 6 kids when I shop, a large big box store is a lifesaver, both for party prep and general shopping. The quality groceries at a reasonable cost are just what I need!

Serve pre-made food

Chose one or two easy favorite dishes to make from scratch for your party.

Utilize pre-made party food and big bowls of chips and finger food snacks for the rest.

Use paper goods

Don’t worry about washing dishes, instead choose disposable paper goods to match your holiday party decor.

Enlist the help of your children.

Keeping children busy helping with party prep keeps them from making bigger messes elsewhere. Even young children can set out napkins and utensils, sweep the floor, make simple party decorations, etc.

With these simple stress free party prep tips, you’ll be able to enjoy the best part of Christmas- gathering with friends and family!
