Boo It Forward Fun with a BOO Mason Jar {Tutorial}
Long gone are the days of toilet papering the neighborhood houses for Halloween fun. These days the new tradition of BOO’ing takes the place of the horrible Halloween pranking of my generation. I’m so glad my children have a fun, yet kind way to have some Halloween adventure!
Have you heard of BOO’ing yet? BOO’ing is the practice of creating a Halloween treat and surprising a neighbor with the goodies. The hope is that each person BOO’d will #BOOItForward and BOO another neighbor.
Want to Boo It Forward in your neighborhood? Here’s a fun and simple way to share the BOO’ing fun.
Create a BOO Mason Jar
Supplies:
- pint glass jars
- etching cream
- narrow duck tape
- letter stickers
Directions:
Place stickers on the jar to create the word BOO.
Using the narrow duck tape, make a rectangle around the BOO.
Etch the glass. Fill in the rectangle and over the BOO letters with etching cream. Place the jar on a paper plate or paper towel, and use a disposable plastic knife for easy clean up.Make sure to read the instructions on the back of your etching cream. Let the cream sit for the specified amount of time on the back of the etching cream jar (I find adding another 3-5 minutes creates a better look). Rinse the cream off, then remove the stickers and tape. Now wash the jar throughly.
You can also use the sticker sheets to create a reverse BOO by cutting out the empty sticker letters.
Add yummy treats:
- String
- Straw
- Candy
- Soda
Punch a hole in a few candy wrappers and thread the string through the hole.
Wrap the string around the jar and tie on a fun straw.
Depending on the jar mouth width, it might fit inside the jar. If not, just fill the jar with even more candy!
Include a ‘You’ve Been BOO’d’ card:
#BOOItForward
Sneak over to a neighbor’s house. Leave the BOO jars on the doorstep. Ring the doorbell and RUN!

That is a very cute idea. I would love it if someone made me a boo kit this year for Halloween!
Those are too cute. I like that you delivered them to your neighbors.
I love this idea! The jars seem like an easy craft to do. (And I love the wreath on your door!)
Wow, you did an incredible job with the lettering there! I absolutely love it. And I love this tradition. We never did this with my neighbors when I was a kid.
I just saw these mini sodas at the store today. I love this idea!
Super cute! I really love the etching and cant wait to try this
Those are so cute! They’re perfect Halloween gifts to friends and family. I can’t believe how well those letters turned out.
I really like how the Mason Jar turned out. I thought Boo’ing was more intense like maybe hiding in the bushes then yelling “Boo” as the neighbor came…lol Treats are great too .. I would love to be Boo’d
This is super cute! What a fun idea to give to neighbors and friends!
What a cute idea! Our kids are too old for Halloween, but our neighbors have young kids that would love finding this on their front door.
Ha those are cute. My 8yr old is really, really getting excited about decorating this time of year. 🙂
We used to BOO all the time. But this is a much classier approach and given that I have never made etched bottles it would be a learning experience too!
