Help Aging Loved Ones Make Medicare Plan Decisions for the Coming Year

As the end of the year approaches, it’s important that our families are making their healthcare plan choices for the coming year. Since we’ve been talking the last several months about helping loved ones age well and live their best lives, I thought it was important to wrap up this series with one last post before the deadlines for next year arrive.
I’ve been thinking often, while writing this series, about the legacy a family’s older generation leaves for the younger generations.
Recently, I took my Grandma and children to see the house her husband grew up in. She also spent many months as a young newlywed there living with his parents. The stories she told us as she walked through that house were priceless.
Those memories are not just our family history, but they also impart lessons that our generation can barely comprehend. They teach us what we are made of and, most importantly, who we should strive to be!
I know my family is so blessed by the love and legacy of our older generation. In fact, I named my youngest daughter after both of my grandmothers. Through their example I’ve learned how important it is to love whole heartedly, to give generously, and to put others first.
As one of the younger generations, the least I can do for my aging loved ones is help them understand, consider, and make choices in healthcare plans which will ensure that they can stay healthy and happy in this latter stage of life.
How can you help your aging loved ones age well and live their best lives?
First, get educated on what Medicare plans are available for your loved one.
The best way to help your loved ones with their decision making is to educate yourself on the Medicare Advantage plans available to them.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield offers Medicare Advantage plans with high-quality, affordable health care services which focus on whole person health by striving to improve the individual’s health and well-being.
When considering Medicare plan options consider the types of wellness, social, and support services that are important to your loved ones.
Have a discussion with your loved one about his or her biggest goals and concerns related to aging well and healthcare. What services would aid in meeting those goals or help with your loved one’s concerns?
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicare Advantage health plans already include many wellness benefit options, including healthy food delivery, health-related transportation services, and alternative medicines and acupuncture. In addition, you’ll also find options like adult day centers to help combat loneliness and personal home helpers to assist your loved one with daily activities in his or her own home.
Some of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicare Advantage health plans are introducing even more wellness services than were offered last year. These services include access to nutrition support and education, service dog support, and even pest control.
Understand the advantages of whole-person health care in aging well.
Did you know that people live healthier when they have easier access to things which help them address their everyday health needs?
Our aging loved ones often have difficulty managing chronic conditions, feeling engaged in their community, and avoiding preventable health-related incidents. Helping your loved one choose the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicare Advantage health plan that best fits his or her needs can give that loved one access to wellness services that will address these difficulties that are unique to our older generations.
Be sure to help your Medicare-eligible loved ones make healthcare plan decisions before annual enrollment ends on December 7th, 2019.
Let’s work together to ensure that our families’ older generations have the ability to live their best lives and age well!
