How to make a Valentine Love Bug Craft

Materials:

  • jumbo craft sticks
  • heart dollies (red, pink, and/or white)
  • glitter foam hearts
  • black marker
  • chenille stems (red, pink, and/or white)
  • tinsel pompoms in red, white, and pink
  • low temp glue gun and glue sticks
  • craft paint (red, pink, and/or white)
  • paintbrush
  • pencil
  • scissors

Instructions:

Gather all the necessary supplies. We’ve listed the exact items we used to decorate our love bugs, but feel free to use any Valentine craft supplies you have on hand to decorate your love bug.

To create each love bug, line up five jumbo craft sticks.

Take two more jumbo craft sticks. Using scissors, trim the jumbo craft sticks to the width of the love bug. Attach the shortened jumbo craft sticks to the five crafts sticks with the glue gun to secure all of the sticks together.

* You can use regular craft glue for this craft project, but you will have to wait for it to dry before completing the rest of the steps.

Choose a paint color for your love bug. Apply a coat of paint to cover the love bug. If necessary apply a second coat of paint to completely cover the craft sticks.

*You could also use markers or crayons to color the craft sticks instead of using paint.

Attach two heart doilies to the back of the love bug using a glue gun and glue sticks. These dollies will be the wings of the love bug.

Blue two wiggle eyes and a tinsel pom pom to each love bug with a glue gun and glue sticks.

It looks really cute if you use two different size googly eyes for the love bug.

Create cheeks by dipping a pencil eraser or a small foam dot paint brush into paint, then stamping the cheeks on either side of the bug’s nose.

Wind the chenille stems around a pencil or paint brush handle to create a coil. Bend the coil in half and attach a small glitter foam heart to each end of the coiled antennae with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Attach the antenna to the back of the love bug using a glue gun and glue sticks. Mix and match the colors to create unique combinations of love bug colors.

Decorate the Love Bug by attaching a large glitter heart to the love bug body. Or, use whatever Valentine craft supplies you have on hand to continue decorating your Valentine Love Bug.

To finish your Valentine Love Bug, draw a smile on each love bug face from cheek to cheek with a black marker.

Now, you have the cutest Valentine Love Bug craft to decorate or gift this Valentine’s Day!
