Supplies:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Marker
  • Craft glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Choose a piece of origami paper for your whale. If you don’t have origami paper, cut a paper into a square.

Fold the paper into half diagonally. Unfold the paper. This will leave a crease on the square paper.

Take any side of the square paper and fold it down to meet the middle crease that was created in the previous step.

Next, fold the other side in the same way.

Now, both the sides should be folded down to meet the middle crease of the square paper.

Take the bottom corner and fold it up to meed the bottom edge of the folded sides at the center crease.

Fold the paper in half, keeping all the previous folds in the middle of the fold.

Decide where you’d like the tail of the whale to start, then fold the narrow part of the paper upwards about 45 degrees, towards the closed side.

Unfold the last fold (tail fold), then unfold the last center crease.

Bring the tail upwards and crease the folds along the lines you perviously made.
Next, fold the tail in half.

Use scissors to cut a small slit along the middle crease of the tail fin.

Flatten the whale as shown below.

Fold both sides of the slit outwards to create the tail fin of the origami whale. Meanwhile, make an eye and a water splash shape from white craft paper.

Attach the eye on the flat part of the origami pattern and attach the water splash on top of the whale.
*You can draw an eye onto the whale if you prefer.

The origami whale craft is more than just a creative project—it’s an imaginative journey into the wonders of the ocean. Perfect for all ages and a variety of occasions, this beach theme craft is sure to become a favorite. So grab your paper and markers, and let the folding fun begin!
