Soothing a Lingering Cough with Vicks VapoRub

While my family went down with our first colds of the year, winter finally arrived here in the south. With 6 children, one cold can last a long time, especially when we are all cooped up inside together for days on end!Vicks VapoRub

When my children and I are sick, I want to soothe symptoms, while using as little oral medication as possible. That’s where Vicks VapoRub comes in! With 7 people sick, from toddler to adult, I love that I can buy just one product to soothe our coughs. VapoRub contains camphor, eucalyptus oil and menthol to relieve cough and the discomfort of minor aches and pains, perfect for all our achy coughs!

Just opening the jar of Vicks brings back childhood memories of sick days. The cozy feeling of laying on the couch cuddled in a favorite afghan watching reruns of Bewitched, sipping chicken noodle soup in a mug, reading a good book, and the smell of Vicks clearing my congestion. My mom always had Vicks on hand to soothe coughs and congestion, and now I also pull out that blue jar at the first sign of cough and congestion in my children.Vicks VapoRub memories

Since my girls share a room, just one coughing can mean a poor night’s rest for all of them- which leads to everyone catching the cold. The last stubborn cough my girls pick up lasted for more than a week, as soon as they laid down coughing started. Thankfully Vicks VapoRub helped the coughing abate enough for a good night’s sleep, and since it begins working instantly their symptoms immediately improved.

I’ll be keeping Vicks VapoRub in my travel toiletry bag after learning the hard way that one of my children reacts poorly to oral night time cold medicine. A jittery, poorly sleeping child away from home is awful! Next time I’ll just use Vicks VapoRub and skip the oral medication!Vicks VapoRub

I’m especially loving Vicks VapoRub for my 2-year-old. His nose is full of yuck, but he’s too young to understand blowing it. Thankfully Vicks helps clear those stuffed up airways. I make sure to rub him down before nap and bed so he can sleep peacefully.
I also find that a warm bath is a great way to help break up his cough and congestion. A warm bath with Vicks in the water or smoothed on his chest right before he climbs in really breaks it all up!Vicks VapoRub for my sick 2-year-old

It’s been a long few weeks here, thankfully Vicks VapoRub has helped soothe many of the worst symptoms, so my family can rest easy. 2016-01-24_0004
