How to Make a Pumpkin with Canning Rings

Supplies:

  • Metal Canning Jar Rings
  • Orange Spray Paint
  • Natural Jute Twine
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (or your favorite craft glue)
  • Wood Stems
  • Green Craft Felt
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Marker
  • Leaf Pattern

Instructions:

In a well-ventilated area (I recommend outside) coat the metal canning jar rings with orange spray paint. Be sure to use several light layers instead of one heavy layer of paint. Set the painted rings aside to dry.

You will need 16 rings to complete each pumpkin.

Once the canning jar rings are dry, measure and cut a 24” length of natural jute twine.

String the 16 canning jar rings on to the length of twine, making sure they are all facing in the same direction.

Gather both ends of the twine and tie them together tightly, around the center of the rings, creating a circle with the jar lid rings. Secure the twine with a double knot.

Trim the long ends of the twine with scissors.

Position the rings until you are pleased with their circular shape.

Attach a large wooden stem to the top center of the pumpkin with a glue gun and glue sticks or your favorite craft adhesive. Hold the stem in place until glue cools completely.

Download, print, and cut out the Leaf Pattern. Trace the leaf pattern twice onto green craft felt, and then cut out with scissors.

You could also use patterned cardstock, craft foam, or fabric for the leaves.

Attach the leaves on either side of the pumpkin stem with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Measure and cut four lengths of natural jute twine that are 12” long each. Tie the twine into a bow. To finish, attach the twine bow to the wooden stem with a glue gun and glue sticks.

You can make this pumpkin craft in a variety of ways. Try painting the rings a different color for a fun variety.
