Coffee Filter Mermaid Tail Craft

Coffee Filter Mermaid Tail Craft
Supplies:
- Coffee Filters
- Washable Markers
- White Cardstock
- Glue Stick or double sided tape
- Glitter Glue
- Gallon Size Zipper Bag OR Metal Baking Sheet Pan
- Scissors
- Scalloped Craft Scissors
- Pencil
- Water Spray Bottle
- Mermaid Bookmark Pattern
Instructions:
Flatten the round coffee filters and add color in a variety of patterns with washable markers in mermaid colors. We used pink, purple, green, and blue.
Place the colored coffee filters on a gallon size zipper bag or metal baking sheet pan and then mist the colored filters with a water spray bottle.
Watch the magic as the colors blend and swirl!
Set the coffee filters aside to dry.
Download and print the mermaid bookmark patterns. If your computer will print on a heavier cardstock, that’s the best option.
If print the tail pattern on regular computer, cut it out. Then, trace the pattern on a piece of cardstock. Cut the tail out with scissors.
You’ll need two coffee filters for each bookmark.
Select two coffee filters that are color coordinated, choosing one lighter and one darker works best.
Trace the mermaid fin on one of the filters, cut out with scissors and attach to the cardstock bookmark base with a glue stick or double sided tape.
Also trace a piece of the darker filter to fit just the top edge of the mermaid tail. See below for an example.
Cut the second coffee filter into strips approximately one-half inch wide.
Cut one edge of each coffee filter strip with decorative scallop scissors.
Starting at the bottom fin, attach strips of mermaid scales to the bookmark with a glue stick or double sided tape.
Overlap each strip on top of the previous strip until the entire bookmark is covered.
Flip bookmark over and trim away excess coffee filter with scissors.
Add a bit of sparkle and shine with glitter glue scallops and lines if you’d like.
Set aside to dry.
