How to make a Super Cute Valentine Decoration
Materials:
- jumbo craft sticks
- red and pink yarn
- natural jute twine
- Valentine colored ribbon- we used a pink gingham ribbon
- low temp glue gun and glue sticks
- scrap of cardboard
- dark brown acrylic craft paint
- paintbrush
- paper towel
- pencil
- scissors
- heart pattern
Instructions:
To create the base of the sign, line up seven jumbo craft sticks. Attach another jumbo craft stick to the top and one to the bottom with a glue gun and glue sticks.
* You can use liquid craft glue for this project instead of hot glue, but you will have to wait for it the glue to dry before completing the next steps.
Water down the brown acrylic craft paint. Paint the craft stick sign with the watered down paint. After quickly painting the sign, wipe the sign with a paper towel to remove excess paint. (If you have any stain on hand, you can use that instead of acrylic craft paint.)
If you’d rather not paint the craft sticks, you can also use washable markers, a crayon, or even a colored pencil to color the jumbo craft sticks.
Download, print and cut out the heart pattern. Trace the heart onto a scrap of cardboard with a pencil. Carefully cut out the heart with scissors.
Gather several colors of yarn, we used red, white, and pink.
Tie the two ends of the yarn together in a knot and attach to the back if the cardboard heart with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Start wrapping the strands of yarn around the cardboard heart in a random fashion.
Continue wrapping and securing every fifth or sixth wrap with a small dot of glue.
Keep on wrapping the yarn around the heart in a haphazard manner until you can no longer see any cardboard.
Tie the two ends of the yarn together in a knot and attach to the back if the cardboard heart with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Attach the yarn wrapped heart to the craft stick sign with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Press down firmly in the center of the heart to make sure that adheres well.
Measure and cut a 12” length of natural jute twine with scissors.
Flip the sign over and attach the ends of the twine to top right and left-hand sides with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Tie a ribbon into a bow. Cut a notch from the ends of the ribbon tails to prevent fraying.
Attach to the top of the sign with a glue gun and glue sticks.
