How to Make a Clay Nativity Craft
Supplies:
- Air dry clay or foam clay
- Clay sculpting tools
- Clay rolling pin
- Clay rolling board or acrylic board
- Star shaped cookie cutter
Instructions:
Take some blue clay and roll it into a ball shape for the base of the nativity scene.
Slightly roll the top part of the ball to make a teardrop shape.
Now flatten it against a smooth surface until you get the desired size.
Next take some purple clay and make a rope shape. It should be long enough to go around the outside edge of the base.
Wrap the purple rope along the edges of the base.
Take some yellow clay for the hair and roll it into a ball.
Press it on one side to flatten. You should now have half a sphere.
Flatten it and adjust the clay as needed to make an elongated moon like shape.
Now, place the hair on the base as shown in the picture below.
Take a little bit of light brown clay and roll it into a ball. Flatten it to form a disc. Next, cut the disk in half. We will use this for the head.
Place the half circle right below the hair.
Now take a little bit of red clay.
Pinch from two sides and then gently press and stretch the clay.
Flatten the clay and also press on the edge of the side using something smooth and even to make two sharp corners.
Look at the shape shown in the image below for reference.
Place the red shape below the head. Make sure there is no space between the hair and the cloth.
Repeat the same process on the other side.
Take some light blue clay and roll to form a cylindrical shape then flatten it.
Make a smaller circle and cut it in half as we did previously for the head. Place it on the blue oval as shown.
Now take some yellow clay and form a disc shape.
Use a small cookie cutter to cut out a star and place it on the top.
Allow the clay to dry.
