How to Make a Festive Christmas Garland with Paper
List of Supplies:
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- A pair of scissors
- Markers
- Printed Template
Instructions:
Download and print out the Christmas Garland template pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces.
Next, trace and cut out the shapes from the printed template. Trace each shape onto different colored construction paper. For instance, trace the Christmas tree on green paper, the stocking on red paper, and the gingerbread man on brown paper. You can customize your garland however you like with different colors!
Glue the half-circle cutout on the top edge of the ornament base.
Glue the star cutout on the ornament to complete the ornament.
Take the Christmas tree patterns and glue the small part of the tree on top of the bigger part of the tree.
Glue the star cutout on the top point of the tree and glue the trunk on the bottom to complete the Christmas tree.
Glue the front toe and bottom heel parts of the stocking on the stocking base cutout.
Glue the top border on the top edge of the stocking base to complete the stocking.
Glue the round clapper cutout on the bottom edge of the bell base.
Glue the bow cutout on the top edge of the bell.
Glue the strip cutout on the gift box, horizontally.
Glue the bow cutout at the middle of the top edge of the gift box.
Glue the eyes, mouth, and button cutouts on the gingerbread man cutout.
Glue the strip cutout on the hand and legs of the gingerbread man.
Make several more of each item.
If you’d like to add a little extra flair to your garland, this is where you can get creative! Use crayons, markers, glitter, or stickers to decorate the individual shapes. You could add stripes to the stocking, ornaments to the Christmas tree, or more features on the gingerbread man. This is a fun step that allows kids to personalize their garland.
Prepare a string or ribbon long enough for your garland.
Flip the paper items over, so they are facing down. Lay the ribbon or string on the backs of the items. Glue or tape each piece to the garland.
Be sure to allow the glue to dry, then carefully turn the garland to the right side. Continue making garland strands until you have your desired amount.
Your DIY Christmas garland is ready! You can hang it over a mantle, on a Christmas tree, across a doorway, or even above a bed for some extra holiday cheer. This craft also works great for classrooms—teachers can use the garland to decorate bulletin boards or classroom doors, adding a festive touch to their learning space.
