  • Needle
  • Matching thread
  • Cotton
  • Printed template

Instructions:

Download and print out the axolotl plush template. Cut out the pattern pieces.

Print and cut out the template patterns for the axolotl plush.

Trace the patterns on the selected felt fabrics and cut them out nicely using scissors.

Take the gill pattern cutouts and place the inner gills on the outer gills.

Use threads matching the inner parts to stitch the inner and outer layers of the gills.

Take all of the eye cutouts and place them on the head. Use white thread to stitch a small dot on the black part of the eyes to stitch all 3 layers together.

Stitch around the outside of the eyes.

Use black thread to stitch the mouth line.
Use a pink marker to draw cheek dots on the face. Or, use pink thread to stitch cheeks onto the face.

Place the base cutout on a flat surface. Place the front legs and the tail on the base, near the sides.

Place the lower body cutout on the lower body part of the base.

Use matching thread to stitch the lower part of the plush around the sides.

Place the head cutout on the head part of the base.

Stitch along the bottom side of the head to connect it to the body. Only stitch through the top body layer.

Lift the head of the axolotl and place the gills on either side of the base between the two layers.

Place the front layer of the head back into its position.

Stitch around the edges of the head. Leave a small opening to fill the axolotl with cotton batting.

Once the stuffing is done, stitch the opening neatly to secure the stuffing. Tie two knots tightly and cut off the extra thread to complete the craft.
