How to Make a Koi Fish Craft

Supplies

  • Colored craft papers
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Markers
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Printed template

Instructions:

Download and print out the koi fish pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces

Select colored craft papers for the koi fish craft.

Trace the patterns on the selected craft papers using a pencil.

Cut out the traced pieces using scissors. 

Take the fin cutouts and make pleated folds on them, horizontally.

Unfold all the pleated folds so they’ll leave creases. 

Take the fish base cutout and cut a 1 centimeter vertical slit at the mouth of the fish as shown below.

Apply glue on one side of the slit.

Overlap both sides of the slit by 1 centimeter and press the glued part together.

Glue the 2 eye cutouts on the front of the fish, on either side of the overlapped slit.

Use a matching marker to draw scale patterns on the base.

Attach a fin on one side of the base.

Similarly, attach the other fin to the other side of the base.

Take the tail fin cutout and fold it in half.

Fold it in half again.

Fold it in half 2 more times.

Unfold all the folds.

Make pleated folds along the crease lines.

Apply glue on one edge of the pleated tail fin piece.

Fold the tail together at the middle of the pleated tail fin. This will connect the glued sides together to form the tail fin shape.

Use your fingers to spread the tail fin pleats a little.

Apply glue on the back part of the fish base.

Attach the tail fin on the glued part of the base to complete the koi fish craft.
