How to Make a Pirate Hook Craft

Supplies:

  • Recycled Cardboard Scrap
  • Paper Cup
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Craft Paper – White & Grey
  • Rhinestones, Silver – Dollar Store
  • Craft Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Black Marker
  • Pencil
  • Printed Pattern

Instructions:

Paint the outside and bottom of a white paper cup with black craft paint.

Flatten a cardboard box and cut it apart at the seams with scissors.

Download, print and cut out the Pirate Hook Patterns.

Trace the hook pattern once onto the cardboard with a pencil.

Cut out the Pirate Hook shape from the cardboard box with scissors.

Trace the hook pattern twice onto grey craft paper, and the skull pattern once onto white craft paper with a pencil.

*You could also use colored craft foam, construction paper, or craft felt for this project.

Cut out the pirate hook patterns with scissors.

Attach the grey craft paper hooks to the cardboard hook with glue.

TIP: We used a glue gun and glue sticks for this craft tutorial.
You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
Alternately, for less mess you can use glue dots or double sided tape.

Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup as wide as the base of the cardboard hook using scissors.  

Insert the end of the hook through the slit in the bottom of the cup.

Bend the base of the hook inside the cup and secure with glue.

Using a black marker, draw the outline around the skull and crossbones, then fill in the mouth, nose, and eyes of the skull.

Attach the skull and crossbones to the paper cup hook base with glue.

Decorate the the base of the Pirate Hook with self-adhesive silver rhinestones or beads. You could also add some natural jute twine to the top edge of the Pirate Hook to finish.
