How to Make a Pirate Hat Craft

Materials:

  • Paper Plate
  • Yellow Chenille Stems
  • Craft Paper – Black, Red, White, & Blue
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Craft Paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors 
  • Black Marker
  • Printed Pattern

Instructions:

Paint the outside of the paper plate with black craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

Download and print the pirate hat patterns, then cut out with scissors.

Trace the hat base once onto the black paper plate with a pencil. 

Cut out the hat pattern with scissors.

Trace the hat brim pattern once onto black craft paper, trace the skull once onto white craft paper, trace the scarf once on red craft paper, and trace the feather once on blue craft paper with a pencil.

Cut out all the patterns with scissors.

Using a black marker, add the outlines and features to the scarf, the feather, and the skull and crossbones.

Attach the hat brim to the hat base with glue.

TIP: We used a glue gun and glue sticks for this craft tutorial.
You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
Alternately, for less mess you can use glue dots or double sided tape.

Starting at the top, attach a yellow chenille stem to the right and then the left edge of the hat base and brim with glue.

To finish, attach the scarf to the back bottom of the hat brim with glue. Glue the skull and crossbones to the hat base, and the feather to the side of the pirate hat.
