How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Lion

Using simple supplies from your craft stash, create this quick and easy TP Roll Lion with the kiddos in just 30 minutes.

Materials:

  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Tan Chenille Stem
  • Colored Cardstock – Yellow, Orange, Black, Tan, & Pink
  • Black Marker
  • Craft Glue or a Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Tan Craft Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Printed Pattern

Instructions:

Download and print out the lion pattern. Cut out the pattern pieces.

Paint the toilet paper roll with tan craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

Use washable markers, crayon, or even colored pencil to color the cardboard if you prefer.

Trace the mane and tail tuft onto yellow and orange colored paper, trace the nose onto black colored paper, the outer ears onto tan colored paper, the inner ears onto pink colored paper, and the muzzle onto yellow colored paper with a pencil.

Cut out all the traced patterns with scissors, cutting inside the lines to create a clean finished project. 

Attach the nose to the muzzle, the inner ears to the outer ears, and the yellow mane and tail tuft on top of the orange mane and tail with a glue gun and glue sticks. Fringe the mane and tail with scissors. Cut a slit halfway up from the bottom center of each ear with scissors.

Attach two wiggle eyes, muzzle, and mane onto the lion with glue. Using a dot of glue at the top of each slit. Attach the ears to the right and left sides of the lion by sliding the ears over the edge of the tube.

Cut a tan chenille stem in half with scissors and bend into an “S”shape.

Glue the edge of the lion’s tail tuft to the end of the tan chenille stem, then roll the fringed paper and glue to finish.

Attach the tail to the back of the lion with glue.

To finish, draw a mouth and whiskers onto the lion’s muzzle with a black marker.
