How to Make an Acorn with Craft Sticks

Materials:

  • Jumbo Craft Sticks
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Brown Craft Foam
  • Natural Jute Twine
  • Craft Paint in Medium Brown and Pink
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks or a strong craft glue
  • Paintbrushes
  • Scissors
  • Pencil with new Eraser or dot paintbrush
  • Black Permanent Marker
  • Pencil
  • Acorn Pattern

Instructions:

Line up five jumbo craft sticks in a graduated pattern, as shown below.

Using scissors, trim two additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the acorn and attach the timed pieces to the vertical craft sticks with a glue gun and glue sticks or the craft glue of your choice.

If you use liquid craft glue for this project, be sure to wait for it to dry before moving on to the next steps.

Trim the top edge of the craft sticks even with the shortest craft stick using scissors.

Basecoat the front and sides of the acorns with a medium brown craft paint (we used acrylic paint).

Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

Download, print and cut out the Acorn Pattern.

Trace the acorn pattern twice onto a dark brown craft foam. *You can substitute the foam for craft felt or a sturdy craft paper.

Cut out with scissors.

Glue the acorn caps to the top of the acorns.

Using a small tipped paintbrush, create an “X” pattern on the craft foam with medium brown craft paint.

You could also use a brown paint pen and a scallop pattern if you prefer.

A gold pain pen or permanent marker would also work well for this step.

Add a face to the acorn by glueing two wiggle eyes to the craft sticks.

Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in pink craft paint and dotting on either side of the face.

Draw a mouth from cheek to cheek with a permanent black marker.

To finish the acorn, tie a bow with natural jute twine

Glue the bow to the acorn stem.

Make this activity in about 30 minutes this fall!
