How to make a Turkey Bookmark for Thanksgiving

Supplies:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Pencil – to trace the template
  • Craft glue
  • Marker
  • Template

Instructions:

Download and print out the turkey bookmark template. Cut out all of the template pieces.

Select colored craft papers for the turkey bookmark craft. We used oranges, yellows, reds, and brown for our turkey corner bookmarks.

Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut out the traced pieces.

Attach the two tail feather patterns together with glue. Be sure to put the smaller tail feather in front of the larger one.

Attach the leg cutouts on the bottom edge of the lower body cutout, gluing the legs in place behind the body.

Glue the wattle cutout on the head cutout.

Attach the wing cutouts on both sides of the body. You can trace them with a marker to make them stand out better.

Glue the beak cutout on the top of the wattle.

Attach the head pattern on the top edge of the body piece.

Attach the tail feather piece on the backside of the turkey body.

Use a marker to draw the face on the turkey.

Now, let’s make the corner bookmark that the turkey will be attached to later.

Take a piece of square paper- use a 4 or 5 inch piece. It doesn’t matter what color paper you choose.

Fold the paper in half, diagonally.

Fold each corner of the triangle inward, so the top points meet the bottom point of the big triangle. Your paper should be a square shape now.

Crease the folds, then open the paper back to a triangle shape.

Working only with the top layer of the triangle, fold the bottom point up so that it touches the straight edge of the triangle.

Fold the top right corner of the triangle back down to the bottom point of the triangle.

Fold the bottom half of the triangle you just created up inside of the top layer. (see photo below)

Also fold the left point of the triangle down and under the top layer of the paper.

Glue the turkey on to the origami bookmark. Place glue only on the triangle pocket. Leave the pocket open and free of glue.

Place a page inside the origami bookmarks’s pocket to use the turkey as a bookmark.
