In this mixed media Uncle Sam, we’re using cardstock paper for the head, ears and hand patterns, craft papers for the base, hat and shoe patterns; felt for the coat pattern, pipe cleaner for the bow tie, yarn for the hair and beard.
Trace and cut out the template patterns from the selected papers and felt.
Take the pipe clear and create a bow shape with it.
Twist and coil the bow tails around the middle part of the bow to secure the bow shape.
Glue the ear cutouts on both sides of the head cutout and cut a slit between the top and the brim of the hat cutout.
Glue the hat band on the hat cutout, right above the slit. Glue the star cutouts on the band part.
Take the beard cutout and cut out some small strands of yarn to cover the paper beard cutout.
Glue the yarn cutouts on the paper beard cutout, making sure that the strands are glued adjacent to each other.
Trim the ends of the attached yarn along the edge of the paper beard cutout.
Cut out small yarn strands for the hair.
Glue the hair yarn strands on both either side of the head.
Use a red marker to draw red vertical stripes on the top part of the paper hat.
Insert the top side of the head through the hat slit from below and join the head and hat using craft glue.
Glue a pair of googly eyes on the head and use marker to draw the nose and mouth onto Uncle Sam.
Use a red marker to draw striped patterns on the trouser part of the base cutout.
Glue the hand cutouts on the sleeves of the felt coat and glue the shoe cutouts on the end of the trouser part.
Glue the coat pieces on both sides of the body.
Glue the small square cutout at the top of the body to create the neck.
Glue the pipe cleaner bow below the neck and glue the pompom on as buttons.
Glue the head onto the neck part and allow the glue to dry.
All done!
