Ready to build your own glowing campfire? Gather your colored craft papers, cardstock, LED candle, free printable template, pencil, scissors, glue, and markers. Follow the step-by-step directions below to transform simple paper into an eye-catching 3D campfire that’s perfect for camping units, summer activities, scout meetings, and imaginative play. Once the LED candle is switched on, kids will love watching their handmade campfire come to life.

How to Make a 3D Campfire Craft

Supplies:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Cardstock paper
  • LED candle
  • Printed template
  • Pencil
  • Craft glue
  • A pair of scissors
  • Markers

Instructions:

Download and print out the campfire pattern. Cut out the campfire craft template pieces.

Select colored craft papers for the campfire craft. Trace the log placement base from a cardstock paper and trace the rest of the patterns on regular colored craft papers.

Use scissors to cut out the traced patterns.

Cut out the fire strips (1cm x 22cm) from red, orange and yellow papers. You can random sized paper to craft the stones/ rocks or you can use out template.

Take the log patterns and roll the square paper to form a cylinder shape. Glue the open sides of the cylinder to secure the shape. 

Glue the round cutouts on both open ends of the paper cylinder shape to form the paper log shape. Allow the glue to dry while we prepare the other parts.

Take the paper cutouts prepared for the stones and rocks. Crumple them into a small ball shapes to make the paper rocks and stones. Prepare several of them.

Take the fire strip base cutout and apply glue around the border.

Place one end of the fire strip on the glued border.

Place four strips around the border, as shown below.

Cover the entire glued border of the fire base with the strips.

Continue gluing around the edge until your strips are all on. You may need to add more layers of glue around the edge.

Select a short LED candle and cut out the center part of the fire base so that the bottom end/ switch of the LED candle is reachable after crafting the fire.

There’s no need to glue the LED candle to the fire base, simply place it on the base, making sure that the switch is not covered at the bottom.

Pull all the fire strips up towards the candle.

Use a string to tie the paper strips together at the top, near the LED candle’s flame end.

Use markers to add wooden log texture to the paper cylinder shape crafted in step 2 and 3.

Glue the paper logs to the log base, keeping the center open.

Switch the LED candle on and place the 3d paper fire on top of the logs; scatter some crumpled paper rocks around the fire to give it a cozy campfire look.
