How to make a Valentine Gnome

List of Supplies:

  • Felt fabrics
  • Matching thread
  • Pencil – to trace the template
  • Cotton or scrap felt
  • A pair of scissors
  • Template

Instructions:

Download and print out the Valentine Gnome template. Cut out all of the template pieces.

Select felt fabrics for the felt gnome figure.

Be sure to choose Valentine themed colors for the details!

Trace the template piece on the selected fabrics and cut out the traced pattern pieces.

Place the beard cutout near the top edge of the shirt cutout.

Then place the nose cutout on top of the beard cutout as shown below.

Stitch the heart cutout onto the hat cutout.

After stitching the heart, place the hat cutout on top of the base.

Stitch the hat to the base around the sides. Do not stitch across the bottom of the hat.

Place the lower body part on the base, tucking the top edge under the bottom of the hat.

Place the hat border along the bottom edge of the hat.

Lift the hat and body stack up off of the base piece. Stitch through the hat border, being sure not to stitch the pieces to the back (base) of the gnome.

Stuff the hat section using cotton or scrap felt.

Once the hat is stuffed, begin stitching down one side of the gnome.

Stop stitching just before reaching the bottom of the gnome.

Place the shoe cutouts between the base and the shirt layers.

Continue stitching around the bottom of the gnome to secure the shoes.

Keep stitching around, but leave a small opening to finish stuffing the gnome.

Stuff the gnome, then finish sewing him shut.

Tie 2 tight knots and cut off extra thread.
