How to Make a DIY Nutcracker Garland for Christmas
List of supplies:
- Colored craft papers
- Colored cardstock paper
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Markers
- String or ribbon
- Printed pattern template
Instructions:
Before you begin, download and print the Nutcracker Garland Template. This free template includes five classic holiday designs: a Nutcracker, drum, poinsettia, gift, and Christmas tree.
Cut out the pattern pieces.
Once the template is cut out, use it to trace the shapes onto the colored construction paper. Feel free to choose holiday colors like red, green, and gold, or mix it up with your favorites.
After tracing, cut out each piece from the construction paper. Be as precise as possible, but don’t worry about perfection—kids will enjoy making their own creative versions.
Attach the bow tail cutout to the top edge of the gift box cutout.
Attach the bow cutout on top of the bow tail.
Attach the triangle cutouts to the drum base.
Glue the drumsticks together.
Attach the drumsticks to the top of the paper drum.
Attach the hair cutouts on both sides of the head cutout.
Attach the hat accessory cutouts to the hat base.
Attach the hat to the top edge of the head.
Use a marker or gel pen to draw the face onto the Nutcracker.
Attach the trunk cutout to the bottom edge of the tree cutout.
Attach the star cutout to the top end of the tree and the round cutouts on the body of the tree.
Attach the flower cutouts as shown below to complete the poinsettia flower.
Measure and cut out a string or ribbon for the garland.
Attach the back side of garland items to the string or ribbon, applying glue or tape.
Once the items are attached to the string, turn the garland to the right side.
Continue making Nutcracker items and garland strings until you have your desired amount.
Your garland is now complete! Hang it on a mantle, across a doorway, or around your Christmas tree for an extra festive touch.
