Summer weather is here. For my family that means lots of picnics! I have to admit that most of our ‘picnics’ are just lunch or dinner served in the backyard because I’m just trying to keep my filthy, dirty crew out of the house while they eat.
When these kids head out the door in the morning to play, they end up covered in dirt immediately. The last thing I want is to let them back in the house to track all their dirt and muck through the kitchen (and everywhere else) on the way to eating lunch! My answer is serving lunch picnic style- outside. It’s a win, win for us. The kids love it since they barely have to stop playing to eat, and I love it because more dirt stays outside the house than in!
We also do a whole lot of spontaneous outings this time of year- whether it’s checking out a new park, a local festival, or strawberry picking. If a fun opportunity pops up, we run out the door. Grabbing fast food is just not an option; with 6 kids that gets expensive fast!
I try to keep picnic food on hand at all times, so we can pack a lunch and run. One of my favorite picnic staples is Suddenly Salad. I stock up on boxes of Suddenly Salad every time I find a coupon for a quick and yummy picnic side dish. (Get two great Suddenly Salad coupons — here and here)
Packing a lunch for 7 sounds daunting, but it’s actually very easy. I just fill my cooler with sandwich fixings, a prepared box of Suddenly Salad, fruit, and a big jug of water. Then, throw some paper goods and bread to a grocery bag and we are ready for adventure in 15 minutes flat!
