These DIY felt oranges are perfect to use for decorating your kitchen. Place them on a tiered tray, add a dowel rod to the bottom to display in a flower pot, fill a bowl with DIY plush felt fruit, or add a magnet to the back to use them as a super cute refrigerator magnet.

You can also add a ribbon or twine loop to the back of your orange to make a fun orange ornament to use a Christmas time, or year around!

Another great idea for this plush felt orange is adding a keychain to the ribbon or twine loop for a cute backpack charm or keychain.

How to Make a DIY Felt Orange

List of Supplies:

  • Felt fabrics
  • Pencil or marker
  • A pair of scissors
  • Needle
  • Matching thread
  • Cotton batting or felt scraps
  • Template

Instructions:

Download and print out the orange template. You’ll find an option for two different sized oranges on the pattern template. You can choose one size to create, or make both! Cut out the pattern pieces in the sizes you’ve chosen.

Select orange, white, yellow and green colored felt fabrics for the orange plush. Trace the provided patterns on the selected felt fabrics and cut them out using scissors.

Take any one of the orange base cutouts and use a marker or temporary fabric pen to add small dots on the bottom half of the orange base.

Prepare a needle with orange thread.

Work small cross stitches on the marked dots.

Place the small crescent cutout on an edge of the orange base, keeping the round edge facing outwards as shown below. Stitch the white cutout to the orange base using white thread.

Place the stem cutout on the top edge of the orange base.

Place the center of the flower on the middle of the flower cutout.

Overlap the leaf cutouts as shown below.

Place the leaves on the orange base, overlapping the stem. Then place the flower on the overlapped parts of the leaves.

Work a cross stitch on the center of the flower using a thread that matches the flower center, making sure to stitch through the leaves and the stem to attach everything to the orange base.

Place the plain orange base under the stitched one. Prepare a needle with orange thread.

Begin working flat blanket stitches around the sides of the bases to join them.

Keep a small opening to stuff the felt orange. Use cotton batting or scrap felt for stuffing.

Close the opening to secure the stuffing and tie two tight knots. Cut off extra thread if necessary.

Your felt orange is finished!
