How to Make a Felt Peacock Bookmark
Supplies:
- Felt fabrics
- Fabric marker or chalk
- A pair of scissors
- Needle
- Matching threads
- Printed template
Instructions:
Download and print out the peacock bookmark template.
Select different shades of green, blue, and yellow colored felt fabrics for the peacock pattern.
Trace the patterns on the selected felt fabrics and cut out the traced patterns using sharp scissors.
Gather the feather cutouts, the long teardrop shapes, the small teardrop shapes, and the round cutouts.
Place the small tear drop cut out at the top edge of the long teardrop cutout. Then layer the round cutouts on top of the small teardrop cutouts.
On each feather, use matching thread to stitch the round cutout together with both teardrop cutouts.
Place two of the tail feather pieces on either sides of the small bookmark base. Make sure the edges of the feathers are aligned with the outer edges of the bookmark base.
Place the three other feathers on the bookmark base to fill it.
Take the body base cutout and place the beak cutout on the peacock’s face as shown below.
Stitch the beak to the body base.
Make eyes on your peacock. Either sew eyes on with black thread, or draw them on with a marker.
Stitch the assembled tail feather patterns to the bookmark base.
Turn the tail feathers over so the backside is showing.
Place the back of the bookmark behind the tail feather piece
Work running stitches to stitch along both of the outer straight sides.
Flip the bookmark back over to the front side.
Place the peacock’s body base on the tail feather part.
Place the two small wing pieces on the peacock’s body.
Stitch the top point of the peacock wings to the body with a small stitch at the edge of the bookmark.
Work a few more stitches under the wings to connect the peacock’s body securely to the bookmark.
Tie a knot to secure the stitch and cut off extra thread if necessary.
Insert a page between the bookmark base pieces to use the felt peacock bookmark in your book.
