Flying Rocket Craft Tutorial
It’s time for liftoff! Gather your supplies, print the free rocket template, and follow the step-by-step instructions below to build your own flying rocket. In just a few easy steps, you’ll have a colorful paper cup rocket that’s ready to launch into the air again and again. Supplies
- Colored craft papers
- Template
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Paper cups
- Toothpicks
- Elastic bands
- Awl, or something sharp to poke holes
Take a paper cup, 2 elastic bands and 4 small pieces of toothpicks.
Use an awl, or a sharp object, to make 4 holes half an inch away from the top of the paper cup. All 4 holes should be an even distance from each other.
Take one of the elastic bands and insert its lopped end through a hole, from the outside.
Pull the elastic band all the way inside the cup and secure its outer looped end with a small stick by inserting it through the outer loop.
Now, pull the inner part of the elastic towards the opposite hole and pull it out through that hole.
Secure the current looped end of the band with another stick.
Similarly, secure the other elastic band through the 2 other opposite holes of the cup.
Take another paper cup and cover it with black colored craft paper.
Fill out the subscriber form below, then download and print out the rocket patterns. Cut out the pattern pieces.
Select colored craft papers and a paper cup for the rocket craft. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut them out.
Apply glue along an open edge of the cone cutout and slightly overlap the other open side to form the cone shape. This is the nose cone of the paper cup rocket. Take the 2 wing cutouts and make thin folds along the vertical sides.
Glue the paper cone to the bottom end of the elastic band attached paper cup and glue the wing cutouts on 2 opposite sides of the cup body.
Glue the small flame cutout to the big flame cutout.
Glue the paper flame to the black paper covered cup, towards the bottom of the cup. (See below for placement)
Glue the round cutouts to the rocket paper cup, between the wings.
Place the paper cup rocket on top of the flame paper cup.
Hold the paper cup rocket near its bottom open end with both hands, pull it downward, and quickly let go with both hands to launch the rocket.
