What is a Sugar Skull?
Sugar skulls, or calaveras, are traditional decorative skulls associated with Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican holiday that honors deceased loved ones. These skulls are often made from sugar and decorated with colorful icing, foil, and beads. Their vibrant and artistic designs have made them a popular theme beyond the holiday, especially in Halloween decorations, costumes, and makeup. Sugar skull-inspired face paint and accessories are particularly trendy among teen girls and young women for Halloween.
