How to Make a Nutcracker Christmas Craft
Materials:
- Jumbo Craft Sticks
- Wiggle Eyes
- Craft Glue or a Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Feather
- Rhinestones
- Craft Paint – Flesh tone color of choice, Yellow, Blue
- Cardstock – White, Bright Green, Black
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Black and Red Markers
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Printed pattern
Instructions:
To create the nutcracker, line up six jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to width and attach with glue. This will be the nutcracker’s head.
TIP: We used a glue gun and glue sticks for this tutorial, but you can use liquid craft glue for this project.

Measure and cut the jumbo craft sticks to 5” tall as shown below. This will be the nutcracker’s hat.
Glue one jumbo craft stick across the nutcracker’s head 1.5” down from the top edge. This will be the nutcracker’s hat brim.
Secure the hat to the head just above the hat brim.
Measure and cut one jumbo craft stick 2” long and attach to the center of the head as the nutcracker’s nose.
Paint the head with flesh tone color of choice craft paint, the hat brim with yellow craft paint, and the hat with blue craft paint.
Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.
Download, print, and cut out the nutcracker patterns.
Trace the hat trim pattern onto bright green cardstock, trace the mouth onto white cardstock, trace the eyebrows and hair twice, and the mustache once onto black cardstock with a pencil.
Cut out all patterns with scissors.
Outline the mouth with a red marker. Draw a checkered pattern for teeth with a black marker.
Attach the eyebrows, wiggle eyes and mustache with glue. Then glue the mouth on under the mustache.
Flip the nutcracker over and attach the hair to the right and left sides with glue.
To finish, glue the bright green cardstock accent and a purple feather to the hat. Attach a self-adhesive red rhinestone to the base of the feather.
