How to make a Leprechaun Gnome for St. Patrick’s Day
List of Supplies:
- Felt Fabrics
- Matching threads
- Pencil or fabric maker – to trace the template
- Cotton batting or scrap felt
- A pair of scissors
Download and print the leprechaun gnome template. Cut out all of the leprechaun gnome pattern pieces.
Select felt fabrics of your choice for the gnome.
Trace the templates onto the fabrics and cut out the pieces.
Place the strip and the shamrock on the hat cutout.
Prepare needle with matching thread to stitch the shamrock and border to the hat.
Take the nose, beard and shirt cutout.
Place the beard on the shirt cutout and then place the nose cutout near the top of the beard.
Stitch the nose, beard and shirt cutouts together by making 3 or 4 stitches on the top of the nose.
Place the hat on the hat part of the base cutout.
Stitch around the sides and top of the hat. Keep the bottom edge of the hat open for now.
Place the lower body part on the bottom part of the base, tucking the edge of the lower body under the hat.
Lift the front of the gnome off of the base a little bit.
Use thread that matches the hat to stitch along the overlapped edge to join the lower body and the hat together.
Be sure not to stitch through the gnome’s base.
Use a matching thread to stitch along one side of the lower body to begin connecting it to the base.
When the stitching reaches the bottom edge, stop and place the shoe cutouts between the base and lower body layers.
Stitch the bottom edge, connecting the front of the gnome, the shoes and the base.
Continue stitching around the gnome, but keep a small opening on the side of the gnome.
Stuff the felt gnome with cotton batting or scrap felt through the opening.
When the stuffing is done, close the open edge. Tie a knot or two and cut off extra thread.
Your Leprechaun gnome craft is finished!
Now, make him a little girl friend too!
