How to make a felt Nativity Ornament for Christmas

List of Supplies:

  • Felt fabrics
  • Matching thread
  • Pencil – to trace the template
  • Ribbon
  • A pair of scissors
  • Template

Instructions:

Download and print out the Nativity ornament template. Cut out all of the template pieces.

Select felt fabrics for the ornament base and the figures. The template includes baby Jesus, star, and Mary, Joseph and manger patterns.

Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut out the traced pieces.

Take any one of the base cutouts and assemble the pieces to form the figure of Mary.

Place Mary near the right side of the base.

Prepare a needle with a neutral colored thread and start stitching around the side of the felt Mary figure to attach it to the base.

When you’re done stitching the Mary figure, assemble the Joseph figure on the left side of the base.

Stitch the Joseph figure with the base as well.

Assemble the baby Jesus figure between the Mary and Joseph figures, towards the center of the base.

Place the manger below the baby Jesus figure, slightly covering the bottom edge of the baby.

Now, stitch the baby Jesus and the manger patterns to the base.

Layer the two star cutouts, then place them on top of the base, right above the baby Jesus figure. Stitch the star to the base with a few stitches in the center of the star.

Take a ribbon and make a small loop with it. Place the open ends of the looped ribbon on the top side of the other base, keeping the loop outside of the ornament.

Place the stitched base on the top of the plain one, keeping the ribbon loop between the bases.

Stitch around the sides to join both bases together.

When you’re done joining the bases, tie a knot or 2 and cut off extra thread. Your Nativity ornament is complete!
