Materials:

  • Paper Plate
  • Craft Paint – we used light pink & bright pink
  • Assorted Colors of Cardstock – we used golden yellow, white, light pink, red, yellow, orange, green, blue, & purple
  • Craft Glue or a Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Sponge Dabber
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Black Marker
  • Printed Paper Plate Unicorn Pattern

Instructions:

Paint the bottom half of the inside of the paper plate light pink craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

Download and print the Unicorn Patterns, then cut out with scissors.

Trace the outer ears twice onto white cardstock, trace the horn once onto golden yellow cardstock, and trace the inner ears twice onto light pink cardstock.

Cut out the Unicorn patterns with scissors making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

Draw diagonal lines on the unicorn horn with a black marker.

Attach the light pink inner ears to the white outer ears with glue. Glue the ears to the back of the paper plate and the horn in the center.

TIP: We used a glue gun and glue sticks for the tutorial, but you can use liquid craft glue for this project, as long as you leave extra time for drying between steps.

Cut strips from colored papers for the unicorn’s mane that are approximately one inch wide by eleven inches long. We use light pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple cardstock.

Cut each strip in half lengthwise. Flip the paper plate over and attach the rainbow pieces to the back with glue.

Start at the ear and overlap the colors to create the Unicorn’s mane.

Create cheeks by dipping a sponge dabber into bright pink craft paint and stamping on either side of the face.

To finish, draw two half circle shaped closed eyes and eye lashes, two nostrils, and a smile from cheek to cheek with a black marker.

This unicorn preschool craft is a great way to combine creativity, fine motor skills, and a little bit of magic in one adorable project. With so many ways to personalize it, no two unicorns will ever be the same. Kids will be proud to display their finished unicorn or gift it to someone special.
