- Cotton batting
- Printed template
Instructions:
Download and print out the Love Bird Ornament Template.
Prepare the template patterns and select felt fabrics for the bird craft.
The template includes patterns for the front base, back base, beak, wing and legs.
Trace the patterns on the selected felt fabrics using a pencil or chalk. Use scissors to cut out the traced felt fabrics.
Take one of the body bases and place the heart wing cutout on it, with the pointy end facing towards the bird’s front edge.
Use matching thread to stitch along the border of the heart wing to connect it to the base.
Use black thread to stitch the eye on to the head part of the bird base. You can use a pencil to trace the eye before stitching it if you like.
Take the other bird base cutout, this will be the back of the bird’s body.
Place the beak cutout on the front edge of the base, slightly overlapping it on the bird’s head.
Use a small piece of ribbon to make a loop.
Place the open ends of the ribbon loop on the top edge of the back bird base. Overlap the open ends of the loop onto the bird’s body.
Place the front piece of the bird on top of the back base, keeping the ribbon loop and the beak between both body layers.
Use a matching thread to stitch along the border of the bases to connect them. Start from the beak and stitch towards the top edge, connecting the beak and the ribbon loop between the layers.
When the stitching reaches the bottom edge, place the legs between the base layers as shown below.
Continue to stitch to connect the legs with to the bases. Keep a small opening and stuff the felt bird with a small amount of cotton batting.
Close the opening to secure the stuffing and to complete the felt bird ornament.
